Bamboo Pillow Vs. Copper Pillow ⚖️ Which One Is Better?

With so many different types of pillows on the market, it can be difficult to determine which is the best choice for a particular individual. If you are trying to decide whether to get a bamboo pillow or a copper pillow, however, you are in luck. I was in the market for a new pillow recently and decided to do some research into these different materials and I thought it might help other folks in a similar position if I share what I found out.

So, should you buy a bamboo pillow or a copper pillow? The answer has a lot to do with how you sleep. Those who tend to sleep on their back and often get hot during the night might do better with a bamboo pillow while side sleepers who are interested in protecting their skin could benefit from a copper pillow.

Of course, there are several other important factors to consider before shopping around for a pillow. Variables such as softness, thickness, and support are sure to play a central role in ensuring that anyone in the market for this vital sleep accessory makes the right choice.

How Do You Know Which Is Right for You?

Since no pillow is the perfect option for everyone, the process of selecting either a bamboo pillow or a copper pillow will come down to understanding the benefits and the potential disadvantages of each one. Let’s start with a broad look at what you can expect to find after bringing home a new pillow

The main characteristics of bamboo pillows include:

  • Spine support
  • Antimicrobial properties
  • Hypoallergenic materials
  • Cool airflow
  • Moisture absorption
  • Heavier construction

And here are the primary features found in a copper pillow:

  • Skin protection
  • Odor elimination
  • Anti-inflammatory properties
  • Firm neck support
  • Machine washable materials
  • Somewhat expensive price

Although the details listed above are generally true for each type of pillow, there are some important exceptions to the rule. For example, even though the bamboo pillow might be especially capable of supporting people who sleep on their backs, it is possible to find a thinner or more adjustable version that can easily accommodate individuals regardless of how they prefer to lie in bed at night.

Additionally, copper pillows can include metal in the pillow itself or in the case and the rest of the filling can be made of a wide range of soft materials from foam to cotton to polyester and beyond.

Another important factor to consider is the type of filling used to create the padding inside of your pillow. Bamboo pillows often provide a type of material that is similar to the memory foam found in many modern mattresses. To aid in its ability to move and contour to the shape of your head, however, the foam is typically shredded, which allows the individual pieces to move freely and create the perfect fit for almost any sleeper.

There are other options available for bamboo pillows, but copper pillows tend to offer more variations. For example, it is even possible to find a feather-stuffed copper pillow, which can be an excellent product for anyone who gravitates toward a softer feeling when drifting off to sleep.

Although it might feel good at first, such exceptionally plush products might not offer the proper amount of support and can contribute to a sore neck and back pain.

Fortunately, there are also foam fillings and other more supportive types of padding available in copper pillows, too, so you can decide for yourself which one is the best fit for your personal preferences and physical requirements.

For some people, either the bamboo pillow or copper pillow will be sufficient to ensure a comfortable period of rest each evening. Individuals with special requirements or expectations, however, can customize their sleeping experience by choosing one popular version or the other.

Considering factors such as cost, quality, and construction are other important variables that will help lead any shopper in the right direction.

How Long Does Each Type of Pillow Generally Last?

As with any consumer product, there are several ways to ensure that you purchase the most long-lasting type of pillow. Whether you choose a bamboo pillow or a copper pillow, it pays to shop around for one that is made by a reputable and highly recommended manufacturer.

Bamboo pillows are often filled with some type of shredded memory foam, which tends to be resilient and holds up well even after a long period of consistent use. Copper pillows, on the other hand, can include a range of filling materials.

Choosing one with foam is likely to provide more stability over the long run than cotton or feather-filled pillow, which can become sunken or misshapen after a while.

In the end, however, a lot of the responsibility falls onto the owner to ensure that either type of pillow is maintained well and kept clean. This includes repairing any rips or tears so they do not spread as well as keeping them fluffed and stored in the open in order to help them retain their intended shapes.

Finally, knowing the right way to wash each type of pillow is an integral part of keeping them clean and comfortable for as long as possible. While it might be easy to toss them into the washing machine for a quick spin, it is helpful to review the preferred methods of washing a bamboo pillow or a copper pillow to preserve their integrity and reduce the possibility that they will become stretched or twisted while going through the cycle.

Since purchasing a superior bamboo pillow or copper pillow requires an investment upfront, it is worth the extra time and effort required to maintain these products for maximum effectiveness. Not only does this mean that the pillows remain supportive and comfortable for as long as possible, but it will also cut down on the expense and hassle of shopping for a new pillow before it is absolutely necessary.

Of course, it is important to keep an eye out for signs that a pillow might be breaking down. If the pillow begins to show stains or sags in the middle to the point that it cannot be reshaped by hand, it might be time to consider looking for a replacement.

What Are the Possible Health Benefits and/or Risks?

As stated above, both of these popular types of pillows have some clear health advantages. Choosing a bamboo pillow means enjoying a moisture-absorbent material that can help you stay cooler throughout the night, which experts say is a key factor in getting the restful sleep that your body needs.

Furthermore, the natural filling acts as a barrier between microbes, germs, and other potential microscopic invaders that could otherwise reside in the pillow and cause you to become sick or suffer from allergies. Likewise, the copper pillow has a unique set of advantages.

Specifically, the presence of this metal within the pillow has been linked to clearer and younger-looking skin. Additionally, the copper acts as an odor eliminator so that each pillow retains a fresh and clean scent for longer than many alternative materials used to manufacture pillows.

But what about the possible disadvantages? While there are a few things to be aware of, there is no evidence that either a bamboo pillow or a copper pillow poses any significant health risks. Nevertheless, some retailers promote rayon pillows as authentic bamboo, which could be confusing and might even be harmful.

Since the synthetic material includes various chemicals, critics say that it could result in negative health effects. Additionally, the process of creating rayon is often bad for the environment. The good news, however, is that the Federal Trade Commission in the United States has cracked down on sellers who had been marketing rayon-filled pillows as authentic bamboo.

As for copper pillows, there is generally only a small amount of metal present in any product. It is worth noting that too much exposure to copper can be toxic, although the copper pillows currently available on the market have gone through testing and studies to ensure that the level is low enough that it will not cause any ill effects even if you sleep on one every night.

There are a few other factors to consider when deciding which type of pillow is the most appropriate and safest option for your sleeping needs. Copper pillows might need to be cleaned more often to retain the skin rejuvenating properties for which they are known.

Additionally, if you choose to buy a bamboo pillow, keep in mind that it might initially have an unusual odor. This is nothing to be concerned about and it will likely dissipate within a few days. There is no reason for it to take you by surprise, so just be prepared before making the purchase. In any case, there are no real safety concerns to worry about regardless of whether you choose a bamboo pillow or a copper pillow.

Which Option Is Best for Stomach Sleepers?

Many people tend to fall asleep on their stomachs, and I happen to be one of them. According to sleep experts, however, this is not an optimal way to start out the night in order to achieve a restful period of slumber.

The main problem with sleeping on your stomach is that it can easily throw your neck and spine out of alignment. This can lead to excessive tossing and turning overnight and a stiff neck or sore back upon waking up in the morning. Fortunately, there can be some relief for stomach sleepers simply by choosing the right pillow.

In order to reduce the possibility of spinal issues, it is best to select a flatter pillow that will help keep everything lined up as intended. Bamboo pillows can provide the softness needed to allow your head to sink down and become level with the rest of your body, but remember to choose the flattest design possible.

Another helpful trick involves buying a second thin pillow and putting it underneath your lower back to reduce the impact on that area of your body. It is also possible to find a copper pillow that is shaped appropriately to cradle your head and keep your spine in alignment even while sleeping on your stomach. Just remember to look for the softest and thinnest design available for maximum comfort.

Although it might be helpful to your overall sleep schedule to try sleeping on your side or back, it is completely understandable if you can only get comfortable on your stomach. If that is the case, there is no better source of comfort than ensuring that you have the proper pillow for the job.

Look for a nice, soft material that will provide enough support to cradle your head without giving so much lift that your neck becomes twisted, which can cause serious pain after spending eight hours in an uncomfortable position.

Related Questions

How much should you pay?

The old adage advises that you get what you pay for, and that is true when shopping for pillows. A quality bamboo pillow will typically cost between $50 and $150 while a copper pillow can start at about $40 and head all the way up to $200 or more.

Is the filling removable?

In most cases, the material used as a filling in both a bamboo pillow and a copper pillow is removable, which aids in the ability to wash them. Shredded foam, however, can be a bit messy, so be prepared for a little cleanup whenever you take the filling out of those pillows.

Where can you buy one?

Even though bamboo pillows and copper pillows might seem like niche products, both are readily available at retailers of all types. Shopping online is as simple as searching for highly recommended products and a variety of big box and department stores have both types of pillows in their bedding sections.
